The Flaming Lotus Girls are a loose-knit group of artists who came together in 2000 to create the Flaming Lotus fire cannon. We have been going and growing ever since, creating installations at Burning Man 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, and showing work at various functions around the West Coast. Some memorable recent events include the Power Tool Drag Races (June 2004), Fire Arts Festival at the Crucible in Oakland (July 2004), the Festival of Lights in Sausalito (Dec. 2004), and a skateboard park dedication in Los Angeles (Oct. 2004).

Our fire art blazes from two inches to 150 feet. Women and men are encouraged to participate with the Flaming Lotus Girls by helping to design, build, operate, and play with the machines. Flaming Lotus projects encourage females with novice to expert-level experience to develop various art-making skills such as design, steel and copper sculpting, operating various metal working tools, soldering, welding, and actual fire-device construction. We hold 'Flame effect work parties' every Wednesday night at the BoxShop in SF to make our pieces and introduce newcomers to metal shop etiquette, machine fabrication, and flame effect design skills.
